Biography

Andy is primarily responsible for the operational delivery of research projects investigating the sustainability of livestock production (predominately ruminants - sheep and cattle) on the North Wyke site in Devon. These projects include large scale grazing experiments, housed feeding trials and the management of scientific facilities, such as the Orr Small Ruminant Facility (SRF).

Alongside the above experiments, his personal research interests involve the optimisation of pasture-based sheep production systems. His recent studies investigate attributing value to different types of information (including livestock and pasture growth information) recorded on-farm and ultimately aims to develop a suite of performance indicators which can be used by both farmers and consultants to identify areas for improvement within a production system.
